Stirtz Sizzles But Won't Join List of Small-College Transfers Averaging 24 PPG

A year ago, Langston OK transfer Anthony Roy was averaging a national-high 28 ppg for Green Bay through nine games prior to being benched as his career unraveled despite being on his way to becoming the fifth different major-university player to average at least 25 ppg after transferring from a non-DI four-year college. This season, Bennett Stirtz has been sterling for Iowa with 18 ppg after commencing his college career with Northwest Missouri State. But Stirtz, barely cracking the nation's top 100 in scoring, will fall fall short of joining the following list of six individuals averaging at least 24 ppg after transferring from a four-year small college:

Transfer Player Pos. Original Small College High-Scoring Season(s) at DI Level For Small-College Transfer
Elgin Baylor F College of Idaho 32.5 ppg with Seattle in 1957-58/2nd in nation after 29.7 ppg in 1956-57/3rd
Frank Burgess G Arkansas-Pine Bluff 32.4 ppg with Gonzaga in 1960-61/1st and 28.9 ppg in 1959-60/5th
Gerald Glass F Delta State MS 28 ppg with Mississippi in 1988-89/4th and 24.1 ppg in 1989-90/19th
Tucker Neale G Ashland OH 26.6 ppg with Colgate in 1993-94/5th
Don Boldebuck C Nebraska Wesleyan 24.2 ppg with Houston in 1954-55/17th
Raymond Tutt G Azusa Pacific CA 24 ppg with UC Santa Barbara in 1996-97/4th

NOTE: Arkansas-Pine Bluff subsequently moved up to NCAA Division I level.
